If you love books and lament the mass extinction of book stores, you’ll be happy to discover Powell’s City of Books in Portland. Boasting the title of the world’s largest new and used book store, it takes up a whole city block and is three stories tall! It’s so big that they have maps when you walk in to navigate and help desks in each of their nine rooms to assist you in locating the perfect book.
New and Used
We loved that Powell’s sells both new and used books and they’re all mixed up together on the shelves. If you’re lucky, you might find a used copy hanging right next to it’s twin new book and save some cash! They also have a section for rare and out of print books.
Not Just Books
There are so many fun kitschy items to buy here! Powell’s carries games, fun pens, reading lights, stationery – and other just plan fun things for your desk. I had to get peeled away from their cute post it note selection.
