When we dream of a Hawaiian vacation, we imagine warm breezes, sun-filled beaches and summer outfits. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always cooperate, but don’t fret! We’ve come up with our top five Kauai rainy day activities.
Play A Game At Kauai Escape Room
Stay dry and pass the time with an exciting game by Kauai Escape Room. They have a variety of themes but the most popular game for visitors is The Curse of the Tiki Lounge! Games last about an hour and are close to local places to eat and drink in Lihue town. Prices range from $32 – 42 per person depending on the group size and all games are private.
While a great activity to do on Kauai when it rains, this is also fun at any time. It’s a perfect airport day activity because they can store your luggage for you and you’re close to the airport.
Rum Taste and Tour a Plantation
Have a drink and stay dry at The Koloa Rum Company. This is a free activity for visitors twenty one and over. Tastings take place every thirty minutes and you’ll need to sign up in person. You’ll taste at least three rums and their amazing rum cake and chocolate sauce. Make sure to tip your host!
On busy days, expect to wait at least thirty minutes for a rum tasting. We recommend signing up for the rum tasting, then going over to browse the Kilohana plantation.
At the same property is the historic Kilohana Plantation. Built in 1935, it is one of the oldest plantation houses in the state. Today, you can browse the house which house a variety of shops, restaurant and a sweets and coffee store.
Sample Coffee at Kauai Coffee
If you love coffee, you will find Kauai Coffee a treat! They are the largest coffee plantation in the United States and offer free coffee tasting. I personally think coffee tastes better when it’s raining, so bundle up and enjoy the cozy coffee tasting weather.
The tasting is serve yourself and you can sample as many as you’d like. Options include flavored coffees and roast-masters blends of the coffee.
Visit the Kauai Museum
Learn a little more about the history of Kauai and Hawaii at the Kauai Museum. They are open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students.
Warm up with Hamura Saimin
A steaming bowl of saimin (like ramen but so much better) will get you warmed up on a rainy Kauai day! Hamura Saimin is a local staple and you’ll often find lines to get a seat. The menu is simple – varieties of saimin, bbq chicken or beef stick and my favorite, lilikoi chiffon pie!
Bonus: Search for the Sun!
Kauai has many microclimates. I can be raining on one part of the island but sunny on another. Check the doppler maps and Kauai webcams. If you’re feeling less high tech, head west – it’s the sunniest part of Kauai.
